Many MMORPGs (and indeed, many FPS-style games) offer options to adjust how the scene is displayed. There's really not many MMORPGs that offer anything but a first-person/third-person view. Oh - before I forget (and this is going to make the whole thing really difficult, I know) it has to be a non-3D game, or at least not first- or third-person view, since unfortunately 3D games give her motion sickness (the semi-3Dness of Ultima Online is alright, with the top-down view at all. The Samurai Empire edition is cheap enough on eBay, and I hear there are free shards out there, so as long as it's 56K-friendly it's a definite possibility. Since developing her character skills and exploring the world is what she really enjoys from Runescape, much more than killing things and taking their stuff, and also more than interacting with other players (every now or then she makes a new friend, but 99% of the people she finds have characters called legolas2381 and only say things like "FUCK U N00BS" or "ANY1 WANNA BE MY GF?", which is kinda off-putting) I'm thinking Ultima Online might be worth a try. So now we're wondering if there are other MMORPGs she could play as well. She eventually became a paying member and is enjoying it quite a bit. ![]() ![]() Lo and behold, it does works reasonably well with our crappy connection. The thing is, about three months ago she discovered Runescape, and without expecting it to be playable at all (we are well aware of how pitifully slow our connection is), she gave it a try, out of pure curiosity. And, you know, she has an interest in playing MMORPGs. I'm one of these poor sods stuck with a sloooow dial-up connection (around 3 Kb/s average downloads), and no way to upgrade it in the near future.
